2015 Advocacy Through the Arts Award
The speech that was given about me...
This Advocacy through the Arts Award goes to someone who continues to impress. She is dedicated to her craft and making a small business work for both her and her family. She contributes to the Topeka community in many ways; she is a remarkable individual, inventive metal smith, owner of a small business called Tobias Designs, employee at TARC, mother, wife and friend. She is an incredibly supportive person towards other artists by way of mentoring, promoting and trading advice, as well as artwork. She is an inspirational, kind person who takes on opportunities and risks, and all very confidently, when well caffeinated! Her bright personality translates to the work she has done at the YWCA Center for Safety and Empowerment as a volunteer guest artist at Survivor Art Support Group and long time donating artist to the Concealed/Revealed Art Auction. She gives so much of herself to others and has found a way to continue to make a difference by way of her art. We can only encourage her to keep up the good work. Please stand with me to recognize Britta McKee for this year’s advocacy through the arts award.

2013 Topeka Capitol Copper Jewelry
I received an amazing e-mail from a lady who works at that Kansas History Museum. She said she saw my work at a local art show and asked if I was interested in creating jewelry using the old copper ("The Green Stuff") from our state Capitol! I soon wrote her back and said I would be honored! I met with her on October 10, 2013 and picked up a nice 3ft x 2ft pice of beautiful patina copper!! This is a great honor to be asked to use my talent and design to create one of a kind pieces using this historical copper!! This jewelry can ONLY be bought at the Topeka Capitol Gift shop located inside the capitol!
